China – May 28, 2026 – The Xiamen Energy Storage Technology Research Institute, jointly established by the Xiamen Municipal Government and CATL, has officially commenced operations. The project occupies approximately 150 acres and represents a total investment of RMB 3 billion (approximately USD 420 million). It integrates five major innovation laboratories focused on key areas including grid integration, thermal safety and fire testing, electromagnetic compatibility (EMC), environmental adaptability, and advanced system validation. Several of its testing and demonstration capabilities are considered among the most advanced in the industry.
Supporting Large-Scale Energy Storage Reliability Validation
Among the facility’s core laboratories, the Environmental Adaptability Laboratory is equipped with large-scale environmental testing systems, including climate chambers, rain test chambers, and sand and dust test chambers.
