New Environmental Test Chamber
With CO₂ Refrigerant
With the continuous improvement of global environmental standards, KOMEG has taken the lead in launching environmental test chambers using carbon dioxide (R744) as a refrigerant. CO₂ refrigerant has the environmentally friendly characteristic of a global warming potential (GWP) of less than 1, which fully meets the testing requirements for future sustainable development and is an ideal choice to replace traditional high-GWP refrigerants.
Adopt Low-GWP CO2 Refrigerants

Why Choose CO2 Refrigerant (R744)?
According to EU regulations, the use of fluorinated greenhouse gases with a GWP of 150 or more as refrigerants will be prohibited. Additionally, for safety reasons, these refrigerants must meet non-flammability requirements. CO2 has a GWP of 1 and is a natural refrigerant that is both non-flammable and non-toxic. Using CO2 as a refrigerant can reduce the direct carbon footprint of commercial refrigeration systems to almost zero. Therefore, CO2 is currently the best refrigerant that meets EU regulations.
Can CO2 Refrigerant Completely Replace Existing Refrigerants?
The lowest temperature that CO2 refrigerant (R744) can reach is -50℃. For applications requiring lower temperatures, R23 or R469a refrigerants are necessary. Until December 31, 2028, environmental simulation equipment operating below -50℃ is permitted to continue using refrigerants with a GWP of 150 or above. R170 has a GWP value between 5 and 6, making it a promising option to replace R23 or R469a in the future for achieving lower temperature requirements.
What Are the Differences in the Design of Environmental Chambers Using CO2 Refrigeration Technology?
Carbon dioxide operates at higher pressures than traditional refrigerants, necessitating designs that can handle this increased pressure. Accessories need to be upgraded to high-pressure-resistant components and compressors. Copper pipes should be replaced with stainless steel for enhanced durability. Moreover, because high CO2 concentrations can be harmful, it’s crucial to have skilled welders for precise work to minimize leak risks.
